Pure Excellence Hair Design Can Help You Find Your Perfect Hairstyle
This month, Pure Excellence Hair Design’s blog is about hair styles applicable to both medium and long hair. While hairstyles trending in 2022 include short styles, not everyone likes having short hair. If you’re among the folks who prefer to maintain medium-length or longer hair, you can enjoy a stylish look too. Hair styles that work on both medium length and longer hair include:
- Experimenting with versatile ponytails
- Putting up your hair in chignons and buns
- Wearing your hair half-up and half-down
- Playing with different braided styles
For a Quick and Simple Hairstyle, Try Different and Versatile Ponytails
Nothing says simple like a ponytail—it’s quick to do, keeps hair out of the way, and looks tidy. These days, the modern busy life of any woman leaves little time to do intricate hairstyling. If this describes you at all, try versatile ponytails—like the bubble or loose low styles.
Bubble Ponytail
To create this versatile ponytail, place your hair in a high position. Secure the ponytail in a hair tie near the scalp. Continue wrapping hair ties down to the bottom of the tail. Be sure to keep the bubbles apart in equal distances.
Loose Low Ponytail
This versatile ponytail starts with placing a hair tie just below the nape of your neck. Fluff out your hair to create more volume. If you have layered hair, leave a few shorter strands of hair out to frame your face.
Chignons and Buns Help Keep Hair Looking Pretty and Out of the Way
Chignon
In French, the word for bun is “Chignon.” When used in America, it’s an abbreviated term that originated from the French phrase, “chignon du cou.” Simply translated, this means “bun at the nape of the neck;” hence, where you place it. To create a chignon, make two sections of hair at the front and secure them in place with hair clips. Put the back section into a low ponytail. Secure the ponytail’s base and end both with hair ties. Loop and roll the ponytail and secure with bobby pins.
Buns
Buns can be placed anywhere on the head, not just at the nape of the neck. Looped around like Princess Leia, worn messy or tight on the head’s crown, buns are versatile, just like ponytails. In fact, like the chignon, the basic bun starts with a ponytail! If you have especially fine hair, we suggest securing the ponytail to your head with a hair tie. After creating the ponytail, grab the tip of the hair and start twisting to the ends to the base. Wrap your hair around the base of the ponytail in a spiral. Secure the bun with bobby pins or a dome-shaped, spider hair clip.
Consider Going Half-up and Half-Down for a Classic and Elegant Look
When you can’t decide between keeping your hair up or wearing it all down, consider a half-up and half-down style. This combines the best of both worlds—a softer look than a ponytail that’s more manageable than loosely worn hair. While half-up and half-down style options abound, common ones include high half ponytails and topsy tails.
High Half Ponytails
High half ponytails are the most basic half up, half-down hairstyle. To start, gather a section by splitting your hair in two sections. We recommend the hair that’s level with the top of your ears and above as the ponytail. Smooth out any bumps with a brush. Secure your half pony with a hair tie. Add a ribbon or decorative barrette to accent the style.
Topsy Tails
Topsy tails are a classic and elegant half-up and half-down style. Back in the 1990s, Tomima Edmark invented a hairstyling tool called The Topsy Tail. While this tool is still available to purchase online, it’s easy enough to create this style without one. Start by making a high half ponytail. Create an opening through the high half ponytail above your hair tie. Finally, flip the ponytail through the opening and pull it down. The ponytail might loosen a bit, so be sure to tighten back up.
Various Braided Styles Work Every Day for Both Medium and Long Hair
Braided styles are when hair gets separated into two or more sections, then the sections get interlaced together. Three common braided styles are the basic three-strand braid, the French braid, and the Dutch braid. French and Dutch braids differ from the basic braid by how their gathered sections get woven together. A few other braided styles include:
- Crown Braided Styles: Wrapping one or several braids around the head
- Pull Through Braided Styles: Weaving two sections of hair around a central strand
- Rope Twisted Braided Styles: Two strands twisted in one direction, then wrapped together in the opposite directing
- Waterfall Braided Styles: Half French braids; part of the hair is braided while the remaining cascades, like a waterfall
