Classic Hairstyles for Proms, Weddings, and Other Special Events

You Can Trust the Hairstyling Expertise of Pure Excellence Hair Design

For May, we’re blogging about classic hairstyles for proms, weddings, and other special events. At Pure Excellence Hair Design, we help clients look their best, especially at special events like proms and weddings. While we’d never try to squash individuality, some of the best go-to hairstyles for these and other special occasions include:

  • Wearing a Simple Bun or Updo
  • Trying a Fancy Braid or Ponytail
  • Adding Accessories

Consider an Updo, Bun, Ponytail, or Braid at the Prom or a Wedding

Those with long hair usually like it out of the way at proms and weddings. Reason being? They don’t want to fuss with it while on the dance floor! Even so, they still want appealing hairstyles to go with their prom or wedding ensembles. If you’re debating on how to create the most appealing hairstyle for your length, we recommend one of four options.

An Updo or a Bun

Wearing long hair in an updo is elegant, and a traditional favorite hairstyle at proms and weddings. You usually keep hair in place using pins or bands. Common updos include the French twist or roll and ballerina bun. A bun is an updo that twirls a ponytail into a tight rope, and wraps it clockwise into a sphere. Sometimes the bun rests high above the neck. Other times it’s at the neck’s base, or nape.

A Ponytail or Braid

If you’d prefer to show your hair length, but still keep it out of the way, try a ponytail or braid. The ponytail got its name because the hairstyle looks like a pony’s tail. In last month’s blog, we shared various ponytail options, including bubble and loose low ponytails. Another way to keep long hair out of the way, but still looking pretty, is a braid. The basic braid hairstyle is dividing long hair into three sections, and overlapping them to create a rope-like ponytail. From fancy to simple, types of braids include the:

  • Dutch Braid
  • Fishtail Braid
  • Milkmaid Braid
  • Pull Through Braid
  • Waterfall Braid

Adding Some Hairstyle Accessories Can Make Any Occasion Special

Even if you don’t have long hair, your prom or wedding hairstyle can still be fancy. How so? Add hair accessories! Adding hair accessories to any hair length creates a stylish and still simple hairstyle. Common hair accessories to wear at proms or weddings include:

  • Bows
  • Butterfly Clips
  • Flower Crowns
  • Glitter-Studded Barrettes or Halos
  • Pearl Headbands
  • Scarves
