Four Simple Ways to Keep Hair from Getting Tangled

Get Regular Trims at Pure Excellence Hair Design to Prevent Tangling

This month, we’re blogging about simple ways to keep hair from getting tangled. Dealing with tangling hair is frustrating, we know. Not to worry, though! We’ve devised some steps you can take to prevent tangling hair. In addition to getting regular trims at Pure Excellence Hair Design, you can avoid tangling by:

  • Properly Cleaning Hair
  • Brushing and Styling Hair Correctly
  • Using Detangler When Necessary

Properly Cleaning, Brushing, and Styling Often Prevents Tangling Hair

Believe it or not, there’s a proper way of cleaning, brushing, and styling hair that helps prevent it from tangling. Instead of cleaning your hair by bunching it up, and lathering it all, try leaving the ends down. Start at the roots, and work the shampoo towards the middle of your hair, avoiding the ends completely. Proper cleaning involves working the shampoo through your hair and massaging your scalp as you do. Once you’ve finished cleaning, you should use a conditioner – either rinse – out, or leave-in-as dryness tends to cause tangling.

After Cleaning and Conditioning Your Hair, It’s Time to Do Brushing

First of all, you should avoid brushing your hair when it’s wet. Brushing wet hair can result in breakage, which increases the risk of tangling. After cleaning your hair, you should only start brushing when it’s damp. Before brushing your hair, you should divide it into small sections. You should divide thicker hair into more sections than thinner hair. Brushing through sections helps keep hair smooth, which can aid in preventing it from tangling.

Heat Styling Hair the Wrong Way and Using Rubber Hair Ties Causes Tangling

You’ve finished cleaning your hair and brushing it, so styling is next. If you use a blow dryer for heat styling, pass it straight down along the hair shaft in smooth, long strokes. Styling with a blow dryer by blowing underneath might add volume but can also result in hair tangling. If you use hair ties for styling, use nylon whenever possible. Using rubber or thread-wrapped bands in styling contribute to hair’s breakage, and result in tangling.

Use Detangler if Needed, but Don’t Forget to Get Regular Trims

Sometimes our best efforts to prevent tangling via proper cleaning, brushing, and styling don’t work. If you find this true for yourself, it’s okay to use detangler. Detangler works by coating your hair with an oil, or polymer so the hair’s surface tightens up. The oil or polymer in detangler smoothes the scales on the hair cuticle, and imparts a positive electrical charge. The positive charge prevents static that worsens tangling. Besides using detangler, it’s important you get regular trims.
